  • is the lightness and darkness of a color.
  • is used in black, white, and gray, but also in
    colored artwork.

Light and Dark
  • Shade
  • The degree to which a color is mixed with black
    or is decreasingly illuminated gradation of
    darkness
  • Tint
  • A gradation of a color made by adding white to it
    to lighten and to lessen its saturation

  • The closer objects and figures are to the
    audience of an artwork, the darker they will need
    to be.

  • Most of this design is made with lower levels of
    contrast in value.
  • Your eyes keep going back to the black next to
    the white.

    help create the illusion of a 3/D form.
