Vision Statement

• The ability to create lattices or ladders as well
  as understand how the occupations are changing
  will become crucial.
• By understanding if the changes taking place are
  due to local economics, state or national factors
  you can be more responsive to the local economics
  when designing curriculum or programs of study.

Step 1

• Determine the relationship between occupations
• Some occupations are commonly found in specific
  industries creating a cluster
• Refer to the industry/occupation matrix
• Other occupations require similar licensing or
  credentials

• Review occupational staffing patterns
• Using ShOW-IT prepare occupation reports
• Perform full report to better understand output
• Look for patterns where both jobs with fewer
  skills and jobs with higher skills are growing
• Also possible is where the job with fewer skills
  is flat or possibly declining and the higher
  functioning position is growing.

• Differentiate between ladders and lattice
• Ladders are typically one to one and multiple
  steps
• Lattices are more interrelated where a step
  between occupations is not as obvious
• It can be argued lattices are probably more
  representative of the typical career path
