What is abrasive paper?
  • Sometimes called sand-paper or glass-paper.
    (However the correct name is
    ABRASIVE-PAPER).

  • Wet or Dry?
  • Aluminium Oxide?
  • Emery Cloth?

Wet or Dry?
  • As the name suggests it may be used wet or dry.
  • The liquid used to wet the paper is generally oil
    or water.
  • Wet or Dry abrasive paper is generally black or
    dark brown in colour.

Who uses Wet or Dry?
  • The automotive industry.
  • Jewellers.
  • Artists.
  • Fine furniture makers for sanding of clear coats.

Why would you want to wet abrasive paper?
  • To cause airborne carcinogenic particles or
    otherwise hazardous materials to be trapped in a
    solution rather than in the air.
  • To lubricate the surface to make sanding easier.
  • To stop the abrasive paper from clogging.

  • Aluminium oxide abrasive paper may only be used
    dry.
  • They come in all different sizes and colours.
