Title: Trig Do Now

1
Trig - Do Now
  • Say a race started at 115722 AM. The winner
crossed the finish line 4 minutes and 47 seconds
later. What was the time at the point the runner
    finished?

2
Objectives
  • 1.1 Angles
  • Degree Measure
  • What units can we use to measure angles?
  • What are some special classifications of angles?
  • How do we convert from degrees, minutes, and
seconds to decimal degrees and vice versa?
  • Standard Position
  • What is an angle called if its terminal side lies
    on an axis?
  • NJCCCS 4.2.12.E.1, 4.2.12.A.3

3
Objectives
  • 1.1 Angles
  • Coterminal Angles
  • What other angle measures will have the same
terminal side placement as one that is given?
  • How do we determine how many degrees something
has rotated in a second if we know the rotational
    speed in rotations per minute?
  • NJCCCS 4.2.12.E.1, 4.2.12.A.3

4
Degree Measure
  • Babylonians 360
  • How many degrees is a complete rotation? ¼ of a
    rotation? 2/3 of a rotation?
  • Angle types (name them!)

5
Degree Measure
  • Angle relationships
  • Complementary
  • Supplementary
  • Solving problems involving comp. supp. angles
  • p.3 Example 1

6
Degree, Minutes, Seconds
  • One minute is 1/60 of a degree.
  • One second is 1/60 of a minute.
  • Used in navigation

7
Example Calculations
  • Perform the calculation.
  • Since 86 is 26 more than 60, the answer is
    written as
  • 5426

8
Example Calculations
  • Perform the calculation.
  • Write

9
Example Conversions
  • Convert

10
Example Conversions
  • Convert 34.624?

11
Standard Position
  • An angle is in standard position if its vertex is
at the origin and its initial side is along the
    positive x-axis.
  • Angles in standard position having their terminal
sides along the x-axis or y-axis, such as angles
with measures 90?, 180?, 270?, and so on, are
    called quadrantal angles.

12
Coterminal Angles
  • A complete rotation of a ray results in an angle
measuring 360?. By continuing the rotation,
angles of measure larger than 360? can be
produced. Such angles are called coterminal
    angles.

13
Coterminal Angles
  • A complete rotation of a ray results in an angle
measuring 360?. By continuing the rotation,
angles of measure larger than 360? can be
produced. Such angles are called coterminal
    angles.

14
Coterminal Angles
Name the smallest angle of positive measure that
is coterminal with 420
