Parents of Adults with Asperger's Syndrome (PAA)
  • Started out as a support group for Parents of
    Adults with Asperger's Syndrome several years ago
  • This year some adults with Aspergers also joined
    the group
  • We try to have speakers every other month and the
    months in between are for sharing our situations
    and supporting one another

  • November 2004 Debra Dolhund, the co-ordinator
    for the Mobile Crisis Team presented to our
    group. She explained how our adults with AS can
    contact their organization in times of crisis and
    the supports they can direct them to

  • February 2005 - We had a housing panel
  • Rod Lauder - Advocacy Co-ordinator, Association
    of Community Living.
  • Debbie Tailfer, Housing Specialist with Winnipeg
    Regional Health Authority.
  • Arthur Prystenski, New Directions
  • Andrew Ross, Rehab Service of the Canadian Mental
    Health Assoc.

  • April 2005 Bob Minda from Sara Riel Inc. gave a
    presentation about their programs for supported
    living, housing and employment. They also have a
    crisis stabilization unit.

  • May 2005 Jeremy Strubb, a young man with
    Aspergers shared his story of what it is like to
    have AS and his struggles and accomplishments.
    It was very enlightening for all of us.

June 2005 - We had a family barbecue at Kildonan
Park to wind up our year
  • It was a wet soggy and buggy day but the good
    company and good food made up for it.
  • We had about 30 people in attendance and the
    highlight was seeing our adults socializing with
    one another and making plans to go bowling
    together with the AS support group through the
    Independent Living Resource Centre.
