Quality Assurance Working Group (QAWG)

What we did...

• Formed the QAWG and invited Appraisal
• leads from the 31 PCTs in London, and we
• undertook to
• Identify trends, pick up on initiatives and share
  best practice (local national), including Hot
  Topics generated by the group
• Encourage shared learning across the group and in
  sectors (there are five sectors in London)
• Act as a broker for Appraiser training and
  development opportunities across the group

What we did next...

• Supported Deanery Tutors in their work with PCTs
  on GP Appraisal, and also developed an active
  face-to-face Deanery AD-PCT Liaison role
• Adapted the NAPCE/RCGP QA grid (2004) for use in
  London and fed back data to NAPCE/RCGP
• Surveyed London PCTs on Appraisal-related matters
  and regularly reported results to QAWG
• Acted as a central resource of information-sharing
  and educational expertise for London PCTs
• Provided regular developmental sessions to
  Appraiser support groups pan-London

• QAWG continues x3 per year (60 of London PCTs
  actively engaged)
• Providing basic, update and advanced Appraiser
  training including for the Appraisal of GPs whose
  performance has caused concern
• Provide web-based resource
