Title: Dynamical properties of fish schooling behavior

1
Dynamical properties of fish schooling behavior
  • Masaaki ISHIKAWA

2
INTRODUCTION
  • HYPOTHESES
  • Basic system of ecosystem is interaction
  • Rules and Randomness ? 1/f fluctuation
  • Evolution process is very hard.
  • Complicated and delicate system is broken.
  • ECOSYSTEM RULES RANDOMNESS
  • ECOSYSTEM
  • COMPLEX ADAPTIVE SYSTEM

3
PURPOSE
  • Perception of dynamical properties of fish
    schooling behavior
  • Modeling of fish schooling behavior
  • Development of software for simulation
  • FUTURE PREDICTION
  • We are able to design optimum fish pass location
and effective escape zone for fish in flood.

4
Observation Experiment
  • Experimental channel

5
Basic Behavior Rules of IBM
  • Individual Based Model

Fish swim against the current
Interaction to nearest other fish
6
Definition of Fish School Radius Rfs
  • Fish school radius that indicate expanse of fish
    school.

Rfs fish school radius N the number of fish in
school ri the distance from center of school to
each fish
7
Power spectrum diagram Static Water
  • Fish School Radius

8
Power spectrum diagram Dynamic Water
  • Fish School Radius

9
RESULTS
  • By fish observation experiments,a minimum
distance between individual fish is equal to
    about 0.03 m (fish body length 0.10m)
  • A changes of expanse fish school is1/f or 1/f2
    fluctuation.
  • Complex fish schooling behavior was expressed by
    simple basic behavior ruleswith randomness.
