Ring of Fire

• This is where the majority of active and dormant
  volcanoes are located.
• It is located at the border of the Pacific plate
  and its neighboring plates.
• The Pacific plate is colliding with and sliding
  underneath other plates.
• What do we call this??

Hot Spots

• Hot spots are areas in the middle of tectonic
  plates that create volcanoes.
• These areas have very high heat energy.
• When the plates move over a hot spot, new magma
  is constantly created.
• The magma then rises through the mantle and crust
  ? eruption

Hot Spots

• Many of these eruptions will cause the volcanoes
  to get bigger and bigger.
• Eventually they will rise above sea level.
• Over time, the plates will move this volcanic
  island away from the hot spot.
• This results in volcano death.
