  study accounting in third year
• Required to obtain exemptions from certain
  professional accountancy bodies

Master of Accounting

• Regular B Comm students require Financial
  Accounting I
• B Comm International students require Financial
  Accounting I and Business Finance I in order to
  have required exemptions

Learning Outcomes

• Development of accounting skills to allow
  students to progress to a more advance study of
  accounting
• Understand the regulatory environment of
  financial reporting and the significant current
  issues facing the regulators
• Ability to read and understand Accounting
  Standards, the relevant Law and the ability to
  apply those regulations to practical accounting
  problems

Previous experience of accounting

• No need for Group B students (from first year) to
  be concerned about their level of knowledge
• In the past average marks in Financial
  Accounting I has been no difference between marks
  achieved by those with and without Leaving Cert
  Accounting

Recruitment by accounting firms

• Accounting firms will be seeking applications
  from, and conducting interviews with, students
  from this class in Oct/Nov 2009

Choice of subjects and recruitment by accounting
firms

• Choose subjects you are interested in and that
  you are good at
• If you do not choose accounting options, this
  will not preclude you from applying to accounting
  firms
• Accounting firms, like most other recruiters are
  looking for intelligent graduates with good
  communication skills, an ability to work in a
  team, a strong work ethic and an interest in what
  they are doing
