Title: FOREST THE GREEN
1FOREST THE GREEN GOLD OF OUR PLANET
TEMPORARY EXHIBITION
GABRIELA GURAU, MIHAELA ARINTON "ION BORCEA"
NATURAL SCIENCES MUSEUM COMPLEX, BACAU, ROMANIA
2The idea of this temporary exhibition presenting
the ecosystem of the forest has the roots in the
old exhibition of our museum. The visitors were
present in The ecosystems room longer than in
others. The space and utilities from the new
location offer new conditions to present modern
exhibitions. The temporary exhibition room has
almost 200 square meters and its architecture
favours different methods of making exhibitions.
3The paper presents the methods of communication
with the public, used in the temporary exhibition
Forest The green gold of our planet. The
exhibition is part of the cultural project of our
institution for the year 2008, and was conceived
as a two part project. The concept offers for
the interested public, the opportunity to visit a
modern and innovative exhibition.
4The exhibitions theme, accentuates concepts like
ecosystem, biodiversity, food chain, food web,
deforestation and the importance of forests in
Romania and all over the world. The theoretical
part of the exhibition is a pillar for the
practical one.
5One of the themes of the exhibition is Water
the essential molecule of life. The public can
find interesting information about the importance
and role of water for the entire planet.
6Soil a living organism, is other important
subject presented in the exhibition. Soil is one
of the most valuable treasures of our planet,
being the provider of food and support for plants
to grow up. Plants are also providers of food
for animals and humans also. The soil layers
comprise air, water, vegetal and animal waste.
The food network presented in this biotope, and
the biological diversity are fully illustrated.
The public can also find in this exhibition more
about the present situation of soils in Romania.
7Usually, we are interpreting the forest as a
source of benefits. The exhibition presents the
forest ecosystem, with the message of knowing and
protecting this ecosystem. The forest is a factor
that protects the environment, maintains
ecological balance protecting the waters, lands,
atmosphere and the biological diversity. Is
important for the public to know the place and
the role of living organisms from this ecosystem.
8The second part of the exhibition was conceived
as a interactive one. Here, the visitors can
build food chains, learn about the deciduous
trees, with the help of food chains pyramid and
plants cube.
This part of the exhibition is often the place of
practical lessons, organised by teachers in
cooperation with the curators of our museum.
9The workshop comprises also a interactive unit
representing the forest ecosystem in questions
and answers, and two units, where the visitors
can build food networks in forest ecosystem (by
night and by day).
10The exhibition was conceived innovative,
presenting the first and the biggest open diorama
(9/4 meters) opened to the public of Bacau
County, after 40 years of museology.
11The diorama has no labels, the species from
diorama being present on a side label. The
interested visitor has the opportunity to learn
discovering species like Armilaria mellea,
Lucanus cervus, Troglodytes troglodytes,
Phasianus colchicus, Sus scrofa, etc.
12The diorama side label with the 44 species
presented here.

19The forest is a collective being, the greatest of
all, invigorated by life, composed by millions of
individual lives, infinitely diverse, that
overwhelms and moves uniquely the human spirit.
