Referral Process
2MISSION
The Wounded Warrior Battalion will provide and
facilitate assistance to wounded/ill/injured
Marines, Sailors attached to or in support of
Marine units, and their family members,
throughout the phases of recovery in order to
assist in rehabilitation and transition.
3ELIGIBILITY
WOUNDED ILL INJURED
Marines and Sailors
...not just combat wounded
4ELIGIBILITY
- Why a Marine would be eligible
- 3 or more appointments a week
- The Command cannot support transportation to and
from appointments - Cannot function within the Command due to injury
or illness - Severe injuries that will take 90 or more days
of medical treatment and/or rehabilitation -
5ELIGIBILITY
- Why a Marine might not be eligible
- Very few appointments or all appointments are
local and the command can support transportation - Marine is functioning within the command either
in their MOS or in another billet - PEB package has been sent to the Board
- Member requires specialized care that WWBn-East
cannot support (ie. 24 hour observation, bedside
care, etc.) - Member has un-adjudicated legal issue (both
military and civilian)
Determinations ALWAYS made on a case-by-case basis

- Medical diagnosis, recovery outlook
- Needs to be written in terms that non-medical
personnel will understand - Duty experts for that service members case

- Standard Naval Letter Format
- Built off the Non-Medical Assessment format
- Must be signed by Commanding Officer or Remain

11APPROVAL
- All completed packages are presented to the
Commanding Officer of WWBn-E for his review and
approval on a weekly basis - Only the Commanding Officer of WWBn-E can
approve or disapprove a Referral Package - Once the Commanding Officer has made his
decision, the WWBn-E Sergeant Major and/or WWBn-E
S-1 will contact the parent command with
coordinating instructions
