Danger / Assessment
  • Establish any Danger and decide whether or not to
    proceed.
  • Assess scene, what has happened?
  • At this stage decide if there is a mechanism.

Airway
  • Consider C-Spine injury (if mechanism exists).
  • Open airway appropriately (using Jaw thrust if
    necessary).

Breathing
  • Assess not only if the patient is breathing but
    also how well
  • Quick listen for breath
  • Using stethoscope, listen for breath sounds
  • Determine if patients breath sounds are equal.

Breathing
  • Using stethoscope listen systematically to both
    sides of chest and back
  • Ask patient to take breath (through mouth if
    possible)
  • At the same time listen for breath sound

Circulation
  • Check Radial pulse for presence and strength
  • (you are merely checking to see if Radial pulse
    is present as opposed to counting it)
  • Absence of a radial pulse can indicate a low
    blood pressure (BP).

  • Disability measures the level of consciousness

  • U Unresponsive

  • It is now time to decide Is your patient Time
    Critical or Not Time Critical
  • If yes you will decide to request Paramedical
    assistance.
