The premise behind a building block synthesis is
that one can decompose a given problem into
smaller, more tractable sub-problems which may be
addressed directly by members of a building block
library. The building blocks are then combined to
provide the final functionality.

Building Block Library
The building block library is composed of
mechanisms that provide a particular function.
The available function of the building blocks
drive problem decomposition.

An example problem

In this example problem, no member of the
building block library can fully satisfy the
design criteria. The problem must be decomposed
into two more tractable sub-problems. The
selected building blocks satisfy the criteria of
the sub-problems, and when concatenated
accomplish the original design goal.
