Basic Closed Hold
  • The mans hand (lead) is holding the ladys
    (follow) right.
  • The ladys left hand is resting on the mans
    right shoulder.
  • The mans right hand is placed on the left
    shoulder blade (scapula) on the ladys back.

Basic Box StepNote This is the leads footwork.
The follow should start at step 4.
  • 1. Step forward with the left foot.
  • 2. Step to the side with the right foot.
  • 3. Bring left foot in so that both feet are
    together.
  • 4. Step back with the right foot.
  • 5. Step to the side with the left foot.
  • 6. Bring the right foot in so that both feet are
    together.
  • Start again at step 1!

  • Now that youve mastered the basic box step,
    the dance floor is all yours! Dancing can be
    done anytime, anywhere, with anyone. To prove
    it, here are some pictures.
  • The box step can be done to any song with 3 or
    4 beats per measure. Three beats indicates a
    Waltz, which has three even steps. Four beats is
    a Rumba and has a slow, quick, quick, slow step
    pattern.
