• Possess knowledge of soil-structure interaction
• Investigate areas proposed for development,
  analyze site and subsurface conditions and make
  recommendations for septic systems, grading,
  earth support, drainage, foundation design,
  concrete slab on grade construction, and site
  remediation.

What is soil?

• Mixture of small, decayed bedrock particles
  organic material such as decaying plants, wood
  and animals air and often water

Why is this important?

• Some Soils do different thing when the moisture
  changes
• Decaying plants make the soil loose
• Loose soil leads to foundation shift
• Shifty foundation can crack and break

The procedure

• Bake the soil until the moisture is removed
• Sift the soil through small grate
• Sift gradually through larger grates
• Analyze what percent of sand, clay, rock makes up
  the sample
