What we did

• Took images of a white box with a black cross on
  it at varying known distances from the cameras.
• We did this with several different camera
  separations.
• We took pictures of the box (of known width) at
  the edge of the field of view at varying known
  distances but constant camera separation.
• Took images of a crater produced another group
  and attempted to measure the depth of the crater.

Why did we do this?

• We know that there are 640 pixels in each image
  and using the fact that we know the distance of
  the box in meters from the cameras and the width
  of the box in pixels and in meters we are able to
  produce a graph that will relate width in pixels
  into width in meters at a specific distance from
  the cameras.
• This will allow us to measure the size of things
  such as distant mountains.
• Of course to use the graph we would need to know
  the distance of the object from the cameras which
  we would work out using the equation Z df/(xL
  xR)
• We then applied this to the images taken of the
  crater in an attempt to work out its size at an
  unknown distance.
