5IT BROADBAND IN SWEDEN
.
- A well developed IT infrastructure can help
provide equal conditions for business and
everyday life. - - "Sweden must be a sustainable information
society for all - To define the main goal more precisely, there
are three subgoals - - IT must contribute to a better quality of life
and help improve and simplify everyday life for
people and companies - - IT must be used to promote sustainable growth
- - An effective and secure physical
infrastructure for IT, with high transmission
capacity, must be available in all parts of the
country so as to give people access to, among
other things, interactive public e-services. -
6Canalisation programme 2008-09
- National support with 7,5 MEuro/year for
improving IT infrastructure - Only to rural and remote areas and 50 co
financing - The area for support is not competitive for a
normal service provider - The Canal or net must be open for more than one
service provider
7Canalisation programme 2008-09
- Typical receivers of support
- Companies delivering electricity
- Road authorities
- Associations, NGOs for private house areas
8Ministry for Infrastructure2009-11-03
- Year 2020 90 of all housholds shall have
acces to broadband with the speed of
100Mbit/second - The service providers shall deliver the same
speed for both out- and incoming data - 93 of all sweds have acces to some kind of
internet
9IT Commisioner Mrs Reding2009-10-28
- EU will be funding research projects with 300
MEuro year 2011-2013 - Internet traffic in EU increasing with 60 every
year to avoid bottle necks a new Innovation
strategy will come 2010
10IT BROADBAND IN VÄRMLAND
- Two long-term objectives for broadband access
and e-services in Värmland were set in 2006 - - 100 coverage (achieved by the end of 2007
with the mobile network technology CDMA450) - - All inhabitants have access to the same
e-services at the same price ??? -
- Developed broadband throughout the region
- FIBRE A connection of fibre between all
municipalities - WIRE-LESS Point to point connections
- xDSL Almost 90 of the inhabitants have access
to ADSL (0,5 - 24 Mbit/s) - CDMA 450 100 Coverage all over Värmland (0,5 -
3 Mbit/s) -
.
11CDMA450 LOW FREQUENCY RADIO BASED BROADBAND
SOLUTION FOR VÄRMLAND
Region Värmland decided in 2006 that Nordisk
Mobiltelefon are to supply broadband internet
access using the CDMA450 mobile network
technology. - CDMA450 network is based on the
American 3G technology CDMA2000 and combined with
the low frequency, 450 MHz - CDMA450 provides
superior coverage in large rural areas - Allows
people to bring their data modems to both summer
houses and travelling
12BALTIC RURAL BROADBAND PROJECT

Värmland with some 13,500 inhabitants - - With an area of 4187 km² there are 3,33
inhabitants per km² - - The majority of the inhabitants are
concentrated to the city of Torsby, which is the
population centre. If one should exclude the
inhabitants in the municipality centre the number
of inhabitants per km² would decrease to less
than 1,0 inhabitants per km² - - Tourism is important to Torsbys future
development
14LÅNGBERGET RESORT TORSBY MUNICIPALITY

21 E-CLIC IRIV B NSR
-
- E-CLIC (European Collaborative Innovation
Centres for broadband media services) - - A result of a successful collaboration in the
Interreg IIIB project BIRD (Broadband Access for
Innovation and Regional Development) -
- - E-CLIC is an initiative of supporting
innovation, development and provisioning of
innovative broadband services. - The overall aim of E-CLIC is to stimulate
innovation through the establishment of eight new
European collaborative innovation centres for
broadband media services, and to develop the
capacity for growth and employment across the NSR
through collaboration in a North Sea cluster.
22CONCLUSIONS
- IT Broadband in Värmland
- - In areas with a high density of population
broadband access will continue to be developed by
the market, but in remote areas it still will be
a question of who is going to pay for it - - CDMA 450 shows that it is possible to cover an
entire region with extremely difficult nature,
forests and mountains, in a rural area, with
wireless broadband - - CDMA450 should be seen as a complement to
fibre -
- Baltic Rural Broadband project
- - Värmlands participation in the Interreg
project Baltic Rural Broadband has been very
successful - - The Långberget project shows that it is
possible to reach out with high capacity
broadband to small remote villages in the
mountains to a reasonable price - - The Värmland Chamber of Commerce will continue
developing Meetingpoint Wermland -
- The future
- - A new period of state grants for broadband
infrastructure will increase the coverage of
fibre in the county (The Canalisation programme) - - The E-CLIC, a direct result of our
participation in the Interreg North Sea project
BIRD, will hopefully bring new innovative
e-services to Värmland and a project under
elaboration called E-CLIC Baltic will be
submitted spring 2010.
