Brief history of SCIS

• 1978 1980 pilot study into the feasibility of
  a national cataloguing service for schools
• 1982 development of an Australian Schools
  Subject Headings List commenced
• 1984 Australian Schools Catalogue Information
  Service (ASCIS) established
• 1989 National Goals for Schooling agreed by
  education systems
• 1990 Curriculum Corporation established to
  facilitate and publish developmental work

Brief history of SCIS

• 1992 ASCIS became known as SCIS when New Zealand
  joined the Board of Curriculum Corporation
• 1996 SCIS database moved to Voyager
• 1998 SCISCD/SCISWeb replaced SCISLINK
  communications software
• By 2000 most customers used SCISWeb to obtain
  SCIS catalogue records online

• Resources for cataloguing are supplied by school
  libraries, booksellers, publishers, education
  departments
• Cataloguing agencies supported by education
  departments in New South Wales, Queensland and
  Western Australia
• NSLS contract cataloguing agency
• Private contractor in New Zealand
• Curriculum Corporation cataloguers
