2General Precautions
- NO food or drinks are allowed next to your
laptop. - Cords, cables, and removable storage devices must
be inserted and removed carefully. - Do not yank the plugs from the outlets.
- Students should never carry their laptops while
the screen is open, unless directed to do so by a
teacher.
3General Precautions Cont..
- Laptops must remain free of any writing,
drawings, stickers, or labels that are not the
property of the Newton School District. - Do NOT write on the labels tags that are on the
laptop and case. - Laptops must never be left in a car or any
unsupervised area. - You should know where you laptop is at ALL
times!! - Students are responsible for keeping their laptop
battery charged for school each day.
4Carrying Laptops
- Laptops should always be carried within the
carrying case. - The carrying case can hold other objects (such as
folders and workbooks), but these must be kept to
a minimum to avoid placing too much pressure and
weight on the laptop screen. - The laptop must be turned off before placing it
in the carrying case.

- Your laptop is identified with the following
These should be on your equipment at all times!! - A tag on the case.
- Labels on the laptop and power adaptor.
- Dont save your passwords on your laptop.
- You should save all important work files to your
CD. - NEVER allow anyone else to use your laptop.
- Do NOT place anything heavy on the laptop.
6Laptop Care
- Do not lean on the top of the laptop when it is
closed. - Do not place anything on the laptop that could
put pressure on the screen. - Do not place anything in the carrying case that
will press against the top of the laptop. - Do not place food or drink bottles in your case.
7Laptop Care Cont
- Do not touch the screen.
- Do not place anything on the keyboard before
closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, disks, etc). - Clean the screen with a soft, dry cloth.
- An old cotton T-shirt works great!!!
8Laptop Care
- If your hands are extremely dirty, wash them
before using the computer. - Dont leave your computer in a very dusty or
dirty environment. - Keep the laptop away from magnetic fields
generated from magnets, electrical appliances,
and so forth.

- Dust off the screen using a dry, lint-free, soft
cloth. Do not press too hard on the screen, as
that can cause damage to the LCD panel. - Do not spray any type of cleaning agent directly
onto any part of your laptop (fluids are bad).
10Just a few more
- Keep the inside of your carrying case clean and
organized. - It is NOT a backpack or a lunch box!!!!
- Always plug the power adaptor into a surge
protector. - Always wrap your power cords neatly.
11Student Pledge
You have received a copy of the Student Pledge.
This pledge needs to be returned with a student
and parent signature.

- Before you can take your laptop home, you must
return the following forms with the necessary
signatures - Student Pledge -- student parent
- New Agreement Form -- student parent
- Laptop Care Orientation student
- Internet Permission Form -- student parent
14Remember..
You are responsible for your laptop and the
accessories that come with it. This is a great
privilege and opportunity that you have been
given. Newton Middle School is one of only 22
schools in the state where every student has a
laptop to use for their school work. If you want
to continue to have this privilege, you have to
take care of the equipment.
