Programme Update
  • Our Four aims were
  • To build capacity of the FE sector
  • ?? To boost demand for learning
  • ?? To ensure quality
  • ?? To raise achievement levels of learners with
    mental health difficulties

Built Capacity of the sector
  • ?? Regional Networks are one way in which we
    build capacity. Presentations and discussions at
    network meetings are a good way to share
    information and knowledge.
  • ?? East of England will be merging the mental
    health and learning network with the employment
    networks so that they both happen on the same
    day.
  • ?? West Midlands will be holding Unlocking
    Stigma events in January.
  • ?? North West are about to do some research into
    young people and mental health.
  • ?? North East are working on a project supporting
    the Voluntary ad Community Sector.
  • ?? East Midlands Access to learning for people
    on Enhanced Care Programme Approach.
  • ?? Learner/service user involvement we have
    procedures for reimbursing learners/service users
    who are involved in our work.
  • ?? East of England look out for details of a
    spring event on how mental health is taught in
    the FE curricula.

To boost demand for learning
  • ?? The Really Useful Book of Learning and Earning
    2008 should be available soon limited copies
    available only.
  • ?? East of England, South West and London are all
    working on a Is it for me? project, which looks
    at the take-up of Direct Payments and helps
    people to develop the skills to manage Direct
    Payments linked to a Skills for life curriculum.
  • ?? North East are hosting two service
    user/learner led events in participating in adult
    learning.
  • ?? Adult Learners Week 2008 lots of regions
    focussing on events and activities.

Ensure quality
  • ?? Have you seen Planning for Quality. An
    Anticipatory Checklist developed in the North
    West
  • ?? Have you logged onto the NIACE website and
    downloaded the Members Handbook and other
    briefing sheets and resources.

To raise achievement levels of learners with
mental health difficulties
  • Forthcoming report on the research into
    attendance, retention and achievement of learner
    with mental health difficulties Id turn up
    even if I won the lottery (South West and
    Midlands)
  • ?? All of the regions will begin to work in
    partnership with the CSIP regional employment
    teams to explore opportunities for embedding
    learning and skills with regional employment
    plans.
  • ?? South East Back on Track project on
    vocational skills for young people with mental
    health difficulties.
  • ?? East of England building links with Early
    Intervention Services on achievement in learning
    for people who use their services.

Things still to do
  • Better connection with Health, particularly CAMHS
  • Establishing a Learner Forum/Network for people
    who use MH services and widen participation
  • Data Base of Good Practice sites
  • Briefing sheets on Funding and Confidentiality
  • Themed network meetings to enhance knowledge
    gained
