affecting 15 of women 6 of men - It has considerable effect on the quality of life
of sufferers in terms of direct medical expenses
indirect due to loss of productivity though it
doesnt cause any mortality - It is a disease about which little is known for
its etiology - In the current study we have made sincere effort
to know possible symptoms signs, precipitating
factors of migraine attack , common treatment
offered to migraine patients for management of
acute attack prophylaxis of migraine
3Aims objectives
- To study socio demographic profile of migraine

9Socio Demographic Profile of Study Population
- Mean age of study population was 37.24 years with
std. deviation of 12.65 years co-efficient of
variance of 33.9 - Majority of respondents were female 28(56)
- Most had education upto primary/secondary 34(68)
10 - Majority belong to joint family 27(54)
- 30(60) of respondents were occupied in moderate
occupation only 9(18) respondents were
occupied in heavy occupation. - Majority belong to SES CLASS IV followed by SES
CLASS III
11- Mean-31.52 years
- S.D.- 12.22 years
- C.V.-38.76
12Distribution of study population as per duration
of migraine in years
- Mean-5.72 yrs.
- S.D.-4.78 yrs.
- C.V.-22.9
13Distribution of study Population as per Symptoms
of migraine
14Distribution of study Population as per
Precipitating (PPT.) Factors of Migraine
15Initial freq. Vs. now
- Frequency has greatly reduced after prophylaxis
from mean of 4.36 initially to 1.28 now is
statastically significant (Z4.7 ,Plt0.001)
16Distribution of study population as per
activities affected
17Drugs used for acute attack of migraine
18Drugs used for prophylaxis of migraine
19Compliance to prophylaxis
Mean compliance 54 S.D.-22 C.V.-40
20Age of onset vs. Family history

22Summary Conclusion
- Mean age of persons suffering from
migraine is 37.34 12.65 years - Mean age of onset of migraine is
31.52 12.22years - Mean duration of migraine is 5.74.4
years - Hunger fatigue were most common
precipitating factors - Social activities were significantly
reduced due to migraine with Z2.02 P lt0.05 - Mean duration of prophylaxis is 2.12
0.83 months - Compliance to prophylaxis is 54 22
23Recommendation
- More more patients should receive treatment
from authorized practitioner rather than using
over the counter drugs as there was significant
decline in frequency of migraine due to
prophylaxis against the cost of just 8026.5
Rs./mth (prophylaxis is cost effective) - There is need to improve compliance to
prophylaxis as it was just 54 with S.D. of - 22.
