  • Total uniform marks available at AS and A2 300
  • Total uniform marks for complete A level 600
  • Paper weighing may vary
  • 3 papers worth 100 marks each, or e.g. 2 papers
    worth 90 and 1 worth 120

Grade Boundaries for Uniform Marks
  • An A grade is 80 for any paper
  • Therefore an A grade is 240 for AS and 480 for
    full A level
  • A B grade is 70 up to 79 for any paper
  • Therefore a B grade is 210 to 239 for AS and 420
up to 479 for the full A level
  • A C grade is 60 per paper, a D grade 50, E
    grade 40 and so on

8
The Total Score is important
  • The total score for AS and A2 is the important
thing, not the individual mark for unit papers
  • A low mark on a paper may mean a retake
  • Use the teachers advice, is the low mark
unexpected? Units require different skills /
    knowledge
  • Discuss with Form Tutor
  • AS is easier than A2, score as many marks as
    possible at AS!
  • Can retake as often as you like. Best mark
counts. Not all exams available in Jan.

Difference between Subjects

  • Number will be somewhere on the scale
  • Subjects differ in skills required, and in degree
    of difficulty encountered
  • ALIS scores will NOT be the same for all subjects
  • ALIS is only one indicator of predicted grades.
  • ALIS is measured against Working grade for you
    at mentoring
  • ALIS is one of the pieces of information used for
    predicted grades

  • Realistic but optimistic
  • Use professional judgement of teachers and your
    progress

Can Predicted Grades be altered?
  • Evidence is needed for a prediction
  • Grades used by you to choose university and
    course
  • Grades will NOT be altered because you say I need
AAB to apply for X at Y!
  • You will have to give your AS Unit grades on your
application to university, e.g. you could get an
A overall by 1 A Unit and 2B Units. You will be
less likely to get in than a candidate with
straight A Unit grades. WORK HARD!
