• German Jew, exiled in Britain.
• The Communist Manifesto (1848) written with
  Friedrich Engels.
• Das Kapital (1867).
• History as a science (Darwin).
• Determinist although individuals could have an
  influence.
• Influenced the thinking of Socialists all over
  Europe in 19th 20th centuries.

• Read through the photocopy of The Route to
  Communism.
• Analyse the quotations from Marx on the sheet.

LENIN

• Lenin adapted Marxism to make it suitable to
  Russia.
• In what ways was Russia unsuitable for Marxist
  Revolution?
• Lenin formed a new type of party one with
  unswerving loyalty to the authority of the
  leader.
• Revolution and the seizure of power were the
  ultimate aim. Communist Utopia would follow
  maybe long into the future.
