What is a Podcasting?
  • Podcast is derived from iPod and broadcast.
    Although you dont need an iPod to listen to
    podcasts. All you need are media players on
    computers or mp3 compatible players.
  • Podcasts are a collection of media files
    (usually audio mp3) that are published to the
    web, and then syndicated letting users subscribe
    (sign up) to and download them automatically.

  • Itunes and podcasts are FREE
  • Itunes has many K-12 audio and video podcasts
  • Many websites have links to podcasts
    subscriptions available
  • School Library Journal
  • Early childhood podcasts available from Sesame
    Street
  • YALSA young adult library association
  • Public libraries have podcasts of programs

Podcast Terminology
  • A Podcast can be downloaded and delivered online
    via RSS feed (webfeed) subscriptions.
  • Podcatchers are special RSS aggregators with the
    ability to transfer the files to media player
    software or hardware. iTunes or Juice
    programs are aggregators or podcatchers.

such as
Search for podcasts within aggregator program or
in websites with the following icons indicating
podcasts are available such as in
School Library Journal
Copy and paste URL or RSS feed into aggregator to
subscribe and download podcasts

Once you subscribe to the podcasts, they are
downloaded unto your computer.
After podcasts are downloaded, you can play them
on any media player.
Or transfer podcast to iPod or mp3 player
