  • 54 countries are poorer than in 1990
  • 3 billion people live on less than US 2 per day
  • 100 million children have no access to school
  • 1.3 billion people have no access to clean water
  • 10.000 people die every day from water and
    sanitation diseases
  • 800 million people are malnourished

  • There is a 5-year review of the MDGs in

  • There is growing momentum for policy changes to
    aid the developing world

  • Is a massive global mobilisation in 2005
  • Is demanding more and better aid, debt
    cancellation and trade justice
  • Is building national movements and global white
    band actions in 2005
  • Is achieving a high profile and strong support

Stronger together
  • PSI is a member of the Global Call to action
  • Poverty, hunger and disease cant be eradicated
    without quality public services
  • We must ensure the need for quality public
    services is high on the agenda in 2005
  • Workers rights and decent jobs are also a key to
    escaping poverty

Getting active!
  • Unions can join national GCAP coalitions and
    influence the agenda and actions
  • Unions can mobilise members around a QPS message
    on the White Band Days, 1 July and 10 September
  • Unions must seize the opportunity to ensure
    quality public services are part of the solution
