Intellectual Property Rights Issues
  • Main cause of the delay in issuing the flood map
  • CEH OS provided data to SEPA (under licence)
    which has been used to develop the flood map
  • Negotiations with CEH OS started Nov 05,
    concluded Aug 06.
  • For each copy of the GIS flood map dataset
    distributed, SEPA have to pay royalties to data
    suppliers.

Staged Roll Out Phase
  • March 06 Limited access provided to Local
    Authorities to support development plans, subject
    to strict legal agreements.
  • July 06 - Internal release for use in SEPA
    business including consultation responses to
    Local Authorities. External parties can view and
    take hard copy sections of the map, subject to
    data use statements and acknowledgements
  • Sept 06 - Contract to be issued to all Local
    Authorities inviting them to sign and pay for the
    Flood Maps. The digital map (shapefiles) will
    be provided for all three return periods (coastal
    and fluvial) as well as supporting information.
  • Nov 06 Official public release of the product
    on SEPA web site
