Introduction
  • The SCONUL Members survey discovered a need for
data and/or methods to demonstrate the value and
worth of libraries to senior stakeholders within
    their institution
  • SCONUL WGPI developed a schedule of work to meet
this need, called the Value and Impact
    Measurement Programme (VAMP)
  • SCONUL Executive Board approved the programme in
    February 2006

VAMP Outline

  • A critical review of work in the field
  • A survey of members requirements
  • A synthesis of the above to define gaps
  • SCONUL Conference Workshops
  • Phase Two

measure value and impact, and to meet other
    requirement gaps
  • Deliver and dissemination of new and existing
products through a maintained web site

Workshop Tasks
9
Tasks
  • Please discuss the following questions in your
group, drawing on any material you have brought
    (20-25 Minutes)
  • Please identify a group member to report your
answers and examples to the full workshop (About
    5 Minutes per group)
  • Workshop leaders are available to help during
    your deliberations

10
Workshop Questions One
  • How does accountability and reporting work in
    your institution?
  • Who do you report to?
  • How do they judge the librarys contribution to
    the enterprise?
  • Do different senior stakeholders judge you in
    different ways?
  • Do you use standard frameworks for reporting?
  • How does value and impact measurement figure in
    your context?
  • What do value and impact mean to you and/or
    your institution?

11
Workshop Questions Two
  • What evidence do you present in your own
institutions to demonstrate value and impact, or
the worth and contribution of your library
    service?
  • What data do you produce to convince others of
    this worth?
  • Does your current approach work?
  • Do you have examples of good practice to share?
  • What tools and instruments do you use now to
    gather evidence?
  • Is there a gap between what you can draw on, and
    what ideally should be available?

12
Workshop Questions Three
  • What additional tools do you want from SCONUL to
help you provide evidence of worth and
    contribution?
  • What is the best way to gather evidence to prove
    value and impact?
  • How much effort are you prepared to give to
    gathering evidence?
  • Are you interested in other measurement tools
    which you dont have now?
  • How do you think SCONUL should help you in this
    area?
  • Are we missing something in our current analysis
    or efforts to persuade?
