What exactly IS a CC?

• This years convention is set to focus on the
  elements of the fairy tale that is the magical
  Cinderella story.
• What exactly IS the Cinderella story?
• What makes a fairy tale meet the criteria?
• What ARE the criteria?

The MAIN Characters

• Every Cinderella story MUST have the following
  two characters otherwise there IS NO STORY
• PROTAGONIST The fair maiden of young age
  usually also POOR and without her father.
• ANTAGONIST The evil stepmother who works
  against Cinderella. Sometimes this character is
  a witch herself as well.

• What about the fairy godmother?
• The handsome prince?
• The evil stepsisters!
• And what about the
• magical creatures???

In your groups

• Discuss what characteristics make these
  characters part of the story. What is necessary
  to make this character be part of the Cinderella
  fable??
• List at least 2 things to describe each
  character!!!

Location, location, location

• Did you know that nearly every culture in the
  world has a Cinderella story? Even the Bible has
  one (Esther)!
• In some stories Cinderella lives in the
  mountains, a cottage or a manor house (big
  mansion). In others she is a slave!
• What makes the stories connect together is that
  Cinderella is treated POORLY and is also POOR in
  MONEY.

The PLOT thickens

• Every story has a storyline (a beginning, climax,
  and in this case a happy ending).
• Cinderellas plot (storyline) is like this

Cinderella or HP defeats evil woman in battle or
the shoe fits.
Evil woman forces C to work hard, keeps her ugly
and poor.
And they lived happily ever after!

In this years Cinderella Convention

• There will be 5 Cinderella-type stories you will
  read and COMPARE!
• You will keep up with the information you gather
  during your comparisons.
• At the end of the Convention you will turn in
  your comparisons for a TEST GRADE!

How will I compare?

• Using your knowledge of the elements of a
  Cinderella story in each tale
• Compare Protagonist/Antagonist
• Compare foil and stock characters
• Compare the plot line of each story
• What is different or unusual in each?
• Finallydetermine if the story qualifies as a
  Cinderella tale!
