Title: Importing from FoxPro CAMP to WebCAMP

1
Importing from FoxPro CAMP to WebCAMP
  • Liz Wood
  • GCRC Informatics Core Director
  • The Weill Medical College of Cornell University

2
Import Steps
  • Upgrade to latest FoxPro CAMP version
  • De-archive (optional)
  • Clean FoxPro CAMP data
  • Make FoxPro CAMP files available to WebCAMP
  • Run WebCAMPs import option

3
Upgrade to Latest FoxPro CAMP version
  • Latest version is available via link at
  • http//www.gcrconline.org
  • Questions, suggestions and issues can also be
communicated via the WebCAMP issue tracker,
    available at the same URL.
  • As of today, latest version is 2(16)-F90, but
this could change. Check site before starting
    FoxPro data clean-up.

4
De-Archive (optional)
  • Accomplished via FoxPro CAMPs Archive/De-Archive
    Utility option.
  • Each site will need to determine need to include
    older, archived data in WebCAMP.
  • De-archiving will likely introduce more data
    cleanup tasks.
  • Alternative keep a tape archive of FoxPro CAMP
in case of a future need to access older data.
In this case, archive the ENTIRE CAMP folder
(with sub-folders) at the time you switch over to
    WebCAMP.

5
Clean FoxPro CAMP Data
  • Accomplished via FoxPro CAMPs Data Integrity
    Options (Utilities menu)
  • Run ALL data integrity options
  • IMPORTANT Run options in the order specified in
WebCAMP documentation. The earlier options may
    correct some problems automatically, eliminating
them from reports in later options.
  • For any option that prompts for a date range, use
an inclusive range such as 1/1/85-12/31/06.

6
Missing/Invalid Data ReportSpecial Notes
  • When prompted whether to report all fields or
only fields required for ARP, select ALL fields.
  • A new options has been added to report missing
only, invalid only, or both. When prompted,
select invalid only. This will prevent the
reporting of missing data not relevant to the
import, and will greatly shorten your report.

7
Make FoxPro CAMP Files Available to WebCAMP
  • Make a copy of the contents of the FoxPro CAMP
    dbf subfolder.
  • On the server running WebCAMP, set up an ODBC
datasource that points to the copy of the
    FoxPro CAMP data.
  • In ColdFusion Administrator, create a ColdFusion
datasource that points to the FoxPro CAMP ODBC
    datasource.

8
Datasource Setup Notes
  • Set up ODBC datasource as a System DSN.
  • Use Visual FoxPro driver, with Free table
    directory option.
  • Some sites have reported issues with driver
versions. Consult the WebCAMP issue tracker (or
other sites via the listserver) if you run into
    problems.
  • The import is a bit more involved if WebCAMP is
on a UNIX server. Contact WebCAMP support for
    more details.

9
Run WebCAMPs Import Option
  • Log into WebCAMP and select Import FoxPro CAMP
Data under Census and Protocol Tracking.
  • You will be prompted for the name of the
ColdFusion datasource set up in the previous
    step.
  • Import has 8 steps. Click hyperlink after each
step to proceed to the next.

10
Potential Issues
  • Occasionally, the import crashes because of
  • A bug in WebCAMPs code
  • A problem in the FoxPro CAMP data
  • A WebCAMP time out
  • WebCAMP support team will work with you to
resolve (a) or (b). After resolution, the
database should be cleaned and import
    re-started from step 1.

11
Time Outs
  • WebCAMP times out certain variables after a set
period of time. A time out may occur during the
import since some steps take over 15 mins to
complete, and you may leave and return later to
pick up on the next step.
  • Youll become aware of a time out when you try to
move to the next step a message like variable x
is undefined in session (or in client) will
    appear.
  • Close your browser, log in again, and re-start
the import on the step that failed.

12
After a Successful Import
  • Run summary reports in WebCAMP and FoxPro CAMP,
using the same date range, and compare results.
    Suggested reports
  • Census Summary Report
  • Monthly Utilization Table
  • Usage by Protocol
  • Some figures may not agree precisely. Contact
    WebCAMP support with any questions.
