- Metaphor Use a text book to represent an on-line
library catalogue. - People often associate books with a library.
- An on-line library catalogue contains different
pages with information. - The catalogue will have a table of contents

3- When the user clicks any of the options under the
chapter title Search Methods, a page will come
up with an alphabetised list through which the
user can scroll and a text box at the top in
which the user can type in his or her search item
rather than scrolling. - There will also be an option to print out the
location of the item that the user wants to find
in the library. - The table of contents will also have sections for
other options such as - Book suggestions
- Selling and buying used books
- Lists of new books and books on order
- Virtual library tour
- Link to library homepage
- Other library information

- Catalogue help
- Index of subjects
- The catalogue will have an index that will
contain a list of all the subjects offered at the
university and a link to take the user to the
page that they are located on.
4- At the bottom of each page there will be a link
that will take the user back to the table of
contents or a link to take the user back to the
previous page. - As well as being able to reserve the items that
our out on loan, the user will be able to reserve
items that are in the library, guaranteeing that
the user will get the item when he or she
physically goes to the library. - There will also be an option to cancel a
reservation. - The user will also be able to buy used books for
which the library may have bought replacements. - The user can also sell the library books that are
in good condition. - Exploit knowledge of
- How people use a text book to find certain
sections, chapters, or pages by using the table
of contents or index.

- Users may not realise that they can reserve books
that are not out on loan. - Solution Place a reserve button next not out on
loan. - Users may not realise that certain words are
links to other pages. - Solution Make links stand out against the rest
of the text. - It might not be apparent to the user that the
location of the desired item can be printed out. - Solution Clearly place a print option on that
page.
