Religion Dress Codes
  • EEOC forbids employers from discriminating
against employees whose style of dress is
associated with a particular religion or
ethnicity. Federal law requires employers to
    reasonably accommodate religious practices,
including the wearing of religious garb

11
Laws on Dress codes
  • Banning ponytails or earrings for men while
    allowing women to have them
  • Banning facial hair or headwear. This violates
    some religious beliefs.
  • A ban on facial hair can also be seen as
discriminatory towards males who have problems
with shaving due to extremely sensitive skin.
This is a condition that affects more
African-American men than white, so it could also
    be a racial discrimination issue.
  • Requiring women to wear skirts.

Tattoos Piercings
  • We asked employers and HR managers to give us
their thoughts on piercings and tattoos in the
workplace. Here's what they said.  "Tattoos
and Body Piercings are tools for self-expression
    - why force someone to be a drone???"gt  "It
amazes me that people adorned with body art and
piercings don't thoroughly consider how their
career can be affected."  "Tattoos and body
piercings do not any impact on what type of an
employee or person that someone is. I am an HR
Manager and I would like to think that I am open
enough to understand that people have differences
of opinions and what is for me may not be for
    someone else."
