  • Pompeys Spouse- Julia Caesar
  • Married to Pompey in 60 B.C. She died in 54
    B.C.

  • Elected consul in 70 B.C.
  • Roman soldier, and general
  • Fought in Social War, Servile War, and The Third
    Mithridatic War

Social War (90-88 B.C)
  • Gaius Marius and Lucius Cornelius Sulla in war
    against Rome
  • Wanted to destroy Rome and start a new power with
    a similar constitution to Rome
  • Pompeys legions destroyed remnants of enemy in
    Africa, Sicily, and Spain after war

Third Servile War (73-71 B.C.)
  • Gladiator revolt started by Spartacus
  • Got thousands of escaped slaves as troops
  • Spartacus killed in battle at end of war
  • Rest of Spartacuss troops fled north and
    Pompeys army killed them

  • Territory called Bithynia
  • Both Rome and Pontus want it
  • They go to war
  • 73 B.C.- Lucius Licinius Lucullus, Roman general,
    defeats Mithradatess armies
  • 66 B.C.- Pompey defeats Mithradates annexes his
    territory

  • Then pursued Pompey to Greece
  • Fought Pompey in the Battle of Pharsalus

  • After defeat at Pharsalus, Pompey fled to Egypt
    hoping Egyptians would side with him
  • Egyptian king didnt want to get involved
  • Sent commander in chief to collect Pompey
  • Commander in chief killed Pompey on September 28,
    48 B.C.
