The Beginning

• The Monarch starts its life as a ridged,
  spherical egg only 1/8 of an in long.
• The eggs are laid singly on the underside of the
  leaves of the milk weed plan

Emerging

• The larva hatches from its shell then eats it.
• The newly hatched larva eats milkweed almost
  constantly

Growing

• The caterpillar molts (loses its old skin ) four
  times as it grows.
• The larva will eat its old skin each time it
  molts
• The larva will grow to approximately 2 inches in
  length
