Pass-Fail Grading System
  • Full time student
  • At least a Sophomore (30 Hours)
  • Minimum GPA of 1.75

Pass-Fail
  • A grade of P Pass
  • Given when a students grade was equal to a D
    or above on the conventional grading scale
  • A grade of F Fail
  • Given when a students grade was equal to an F
    on the conventional grading scale

Whats the catch?
  • Reason to take Pass-Fail?
  • A grade of Pass WILL NOT be computed in GPA
  • A grade of Fail WILL be computed in GPA

What else about Pass-Fail?
  • May not exceed six(6) pass-fail courses
  • Can not be used on courses that counts towards
    your major, minor or core curriculum
  • Used for a free elective credit

Repeat Policy
  • Boost any grade
  • Only get credit once for a course
  • If you repeat a course, the initial grade can be
    excluded from your GPA
  • Only repeat if the Course Number and Title stay
    the same

  • Average Load 15 18 Hours
  • Maximum Load 18, without approval
  • Full time student 12 Hours

  • Freshman
  • Sophomore gt 30 Hours
  • Junior gt 60 Hours
  • Senior gt 90 Hours

Drops
  • DURING first five days of the semester
  • Unlimited number of drops without academic
    penalty
  • AFTER first five days of the semester
  • Four Courses can be dropped in your Undergraduate
    career at Appalachian with no academic penalty

Good Academic Standing

Academic Probation
  • Assigned for the semester after the GPA goes
    below the minimum cumulative GPA
  • A student is allowed to be enrolled for two(2)
    semesters on academic probation
  • After two semesters, the student is suspended
  • Take classes in summer sessions only to boost GPA

  • Gamma Beta Phi
  • 14 Hours 3.25 GPA
  • Alpha Chi
  • Senior no less than 3.5 GPA
  • Phi Kappa Phi
  • No less then 3.70 GPA
  • Chancellors List
  • 3.85 GPA
  • Deans List
  • 3.45 GPA or better (12 14 hours)
  • 3.25 GPA of better (15 or more hours)
