• Given its vision to be the leading global library
  cooperative, OCLCs role is to leverage the
  cooperative and facilitate collaboration to
  strengthen the library community through staff
  development

• Advising on Outsell survey, reviewing the results

• Correlating those types of training that would
  help strengthen the library community with those
  most critical in achieving the global

The Outsell Survey

• This survey focused on online training, and
  analyzed the results in the context of those who
  planned to use web-based training
• 2,112 responses, 32 from outside the United
  States
• Both consumers and influencers responded

• Management Skills
• Computing/Information Technology
• Critical training needs currently unavailable
• Creating/organizing a digital library
• Collection development and management
• Management of change and innovation

Survey available on OCLC website

• A few results I found interesting
• Slightly less than ½ of those surveyed intended
  to use web-based training in the next twelve
  months
• Influencers are more open to web-based training
  than consumers
• The average operating budget is significantly
  greater for influencers who plan on using
  web-based training
• Libraries expect no change or a decrease in
  training budgets for the next 12 months, but see
  increases more likely in the next 3 years

General principles of Task Force report

• Leverage the cooperative
• Collaborate with existing providers
• Avoid redundancy and competition
• Pursue a modular, multi-format approach
• Internationalize at every opportunity
• Recognize need for investment
