  • The distance between the building line/boundary
and the top of the kerb ramp is less than 3m.
  • The gradient on the kerb ramp is between 18 to
    18.5.
  • The kerb ramp is aligned with the building line
    in the direction of travel.
  • Where the width of the walkway is greater than
    3m, directional TGSIs, 600mm 800mm in width,
are to be provided from the property line to the

Roundabouts - Small
  • These are used extensively in the metropolitan
suburban area at urban and collector roads where
high traffic flows dictate better traffic
controls and safe movement of traffic.
  • Priority has always been given to the movement of
vehicular traffic over that of pedestrians.

19
Roundabouts - Medium
  • Used extensively on arterial roads in urban areas
    and intersections on rural roads.
  • Pedestrian crossings are always provided, in
urban areas, however the level of crossings can
vary in rural areas from controlled crossings
with pedestrian lights to unmarked crossings.

20
Roundabouts Large
  • Used at Freeway Interchanges and intersections at
    freeway terminals.
  • Absolute priority given to vehicular traffic.
  • Pedestrian crossovers may require two stages due
to the length of some crossings.

Bicycles
  • Design for bicycles at roundabouts is necessary
due to the high incidence of accidents between
    cars and bicycles.
  • This in some cases requires the sharing of
pedestrian areas with bicycles riders, especially
    at intersections.
