GERLS German-Egyptian Research Long-term
Scholarship
  • An MOU has been signed between the Ministry of
    Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR)
    and the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst,
    Bonn (DAAD) in order to jointly finance up to 100
    long term scholarships for Egyptian doctoral
    candidates in order to pursue their studies in
    Germany.
  • Deadline for application November 30th, 2008
  • Total budget is about 17.000.000 Euro
  • 70 MHESR, 30 DAAD

Scholarship
  • The target group is
  • M.A or M.Sc. Holders who wish to do research on
    their Ph.D. theses in Germany
  • Requirements
  • Applicants must be currently affiliated with an
    Egyptian university or an Egyptian Research
    Institute.
  • The Full Ph.D. Scholarship for all fields of
    study, Ph.D. will be awarded by a German
    university, duration of the scholarship up to 42
    months
  • The Channel Scholarship for all fields of
    study, Ph.D. will be awarded by an Egyptian
    university, duration of the scholarship up to 24
    months
  • The Specialization scholarship for the study
    of medicine, fine and applied arts, architecture
    and music , no degree awarded, duration of the
    scholarship up to 24 months

  • Requirements
  • Excellent Study Achievements
  • Years passed since the M.A. / M.Sc. Degree
    M.A./M.Sc. Degrees should generally not be older
    than three years.
  • English language command is required, while
    German language command is a plus.
  • On a general basis, preference will be given to
    the following fields without excluding any other
    fields water, renewable energies, medical
    sciences, material sciences, biotechnology,
    social sciences, ICT and humanities.

  • The candidates will be selected in two rounds.
    First a pre selection procedure will identify the
    group of applicants to be invited for a personal
    interview. In the interview, each applicant will
    give a personal presentation for the bi-national
    selection committee.

GERSS German Egyptian Jointly Funded Short Term
Research Scholarships
  • In the context of the German Egyptian Year of
    Science Technology 2007, a Cooperation
    Agreement has been signed between the Ministry of
    Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR)
    and the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst,
    Bonn (DAAD) in order to jointly finance short
    term scholarships for young Egyptian Scientists
    to travel to Germany
  • The target group of the program are Master,- PhD
    candidates and young Post Doctoral candidates.
  • The scholarships may be awarded for a period
    from three to six months.
  • 120.000 from each side per year.

  • Three groups of academics addressed (degree
    should be awarded at least one year prior to the
    application)
  • - B.SC Holders who wish to do additional
    research on their Master theses.

  • - Doctorate or Ph.D holders for research at
    a German university or

  • Requirements
  • Applicants must be currently affiliated with an
    Egyptian university or an Egyptian Research
    Institute .
  • Within a period of three years a person can be
    awarded only one grant
  • Dual applications between some programs offered
    by the Ministry and the DAAD are not permitted
  • Stipend
  • Post Doctoral scholarship holders are granted an
    amount of EUR 1951 per month.
  • Masters and Doctoral scholarship holders will be
    granted an amount of EUR 1058 per month.
  • Two calls for proposals, in October and April of
    each year

  • Graduates shouldnt be older than 26 years
  • PhD candidates shouldnt be older than 36 years
  • Post doc candidates shouldnt be older than 40

  • Good command of English is required. Knowledge
    of the German Language is a plus
  • Priority given to the following fields water,
    renewable energies, medical sciences, material
    sciences, biotechnology, social sciences and
    humanities.
  • Participation in the German language and
    cultural preparation coursed in cooperation with
    the Goethe Institute in Egypt is mandatory.

GESP German Egyptian Scientific Projects
  • In the context of the German Egyptian Year of
    Science Technology 2007, a Cooperation

  • Target group
  • GESP is aiming at supporting bilateral
    mobility between Egyptian and German scientific
    teams with special emphasis on young scientists
    (Master and PhD students) and within a the
    framework of a jointly submitted research project
    of a period up to three years.

  • Agreement between the Egyptian Ministry of Higher
    Education (MHESR) and the German Federal Ministry
    of Education and Research (BMBF)

  • Aims
  • Support of innovative bilateral pilot projects in
    applied research
  • Acceleration of the process between research and
    application
  • Preferred topics Water Management, Medical
    Science, Material Science, Renewable Energy,
    Biotechnology without excluding any other topics
  • Open to All Egyptian and German Universities,
    research institutions, research and development
    centers, governmental agencies and business
    enterprises headquartered in Germany or Egypt.
    Industry partners have to contribute to the
    project.
  • Only joint applications involving at least one
    partner from each country will be eligible for
    evaluation.

Re-invitation program for former scholarship
holders
  • Objective
  • The Re-invitation program helps the DAAD maintain
    contacts with its former one-year scholarship
    holders and with former scholarship holders who
    had studied in Germany for at least one year.
    Lecture tours and conference attendance cannot be
    supported.
  • Duration
  • Depending on the work schedule, the research stay
    can last between one and three months.
  • Value
  • The grant consists of a monthly allowance of
    1.840 Euro. The DAAD will pay a lump sum of 525
    Euro as a travel allowance. Health insurance is
    not covered by the grant
  • Please note Within a period of 3 years a person
    can be awarded only one grant.

WAP Exchange Program for German and Egyptian
Academics / Researchers
  • Objective
  • The exchange program is primarily intended to
    support the implementation of mutual teaching and
    research projects.
  • Duration
  • Depending on the applicant's work schedule, the
    stay will last between one and three months. The
    grants cannot be extended. The stay can start on
    1 June at the earliest.
  • Value
  • The monthly award will amount to 1,840 Euros
    health insurance and the travel costs are not
    covered by the grant.

DaF-Master at the Center of Excellence for
Studies and research in German and Arabic as
Foreign Languages at the Ain Shams University
  • As of the winter semester 08/09 the EZ-DAAF
    offers the master study program German as a
    foreign language
  • The study program has a duration of 4 semesters
    and deals with didactics/methods, linguistics,
    literature and regional resp. cultural studies.
  • In the framework of the program the students
    will spend one semester at Leipzig University.
    Furthermore the students will have to do a
    internship at a German school in Egypt.
  • The master is awarded jointly by Ain Shams and
    Leipzig University

Science Year Follow Up Week November 9th
13th, 2008 in Cairo
  • From 9th to 13th of November the Science Year
    Follow Up Event and "Germany Alumni Fair" will
    take place in Cairo.
  • The purpose of the Science Year Follow Up Event
    is to present the outstanding outcome of the
    joint projects and to highlight the success
    stories of the year.
  • Subsequently to this Follow Up Event, the DAAD
    will hold an "Germany Alumni Fair which aims to
    create a long-standing networking and exchange of
    ideas between German Alumni worldwide.
  • The Science Year Follow Up Week will include
    several workshops and trainings.
