SAB Role and Vision

• To provide an organizational framework and
  conducive
• environment within which to develop broadly
  accepted,
• sound, timely, and technically excellent
  standards that
• will advance the theory and practice of computing
  and
• information processing science and technology.
• Responsibility for CS policies for formation of
  consensus
• agreements.
• Position SAB as the go-to to international
  standardization
• SWEBOK.
• Growth from matrixed participation between SAB
• and CS TCs.

Standards Development

• Move to a broader view of standardization to
  encompass a variety of processes and products
• Some very light-weight.
• Empower CS groups to take positions backed by the
  CS. Currently AdHoc (eg., SWEBOK, Curricula).
• Define an enabling process.
• There are uses for consensus processes across all
  CS communities as we move toward SP5.
• Better publicize Fast Track procedures among
  Sponsor groups.
• Promote openness through enhanced communications
• Continued focus on Sponsor vitality.
• Minimum set of criteria for Sponsor Web presence.
• Open up channels to Technical Committees.
• Evaluate rights and usage issues associated with
  software standards. Investigate free use of
  imbedded specifications.
• Further IEEE Standards market penetration.

Coordination Harmonization

• Coordination
• Support IEEE-SA in obtaining formal status for
  IEEE at JTC1 level. Improves all CS sponsors
  relationships.
• Improve and regularize IEEE CS participation in
  various JTC1 subcommittees (Liaison Types A or
  C).
• Strengthen relationships between SAB Sponsors and
  International Federation for Information
  Processing (IFIP) 12 technical committees.
• Formalize position with IEEE-SA
• Modify CS PP identifying the type of sponsor
  SAB is with respect to IEEE SA.
• Sponsor alignment with Audcom / Model PP.
• Harmonization
• Continue harmonization with JTC1/SC7 on software
  and systems engineering standards.
• Move new technology areas into TAB and SAB for
  international concurrence with JTC1.

• PP
• Slight modification to CS PP to identify the
  type of sponsor that the SAB is with respect to
  the IEEE-SA.
• Assist sponsors in their transition to new
  procedures.
• New policies for alignment with IEEE-CS SP5.
  Emphasis on inter-group coordination and
  planning.
• Standards Handbook
• Revise existing IEEE-CS standards handbook in
  support of practical application and alignment
  with IEEE-SA Companion.
• Develop sponsor PP for SAB Sponsored projects
• Standard Upper Ontology WG.
