KTH, DTU, NTNU, Chalmers, HI
Lenght of the program 120 ECTS, two
years Number of students 50 annually When?
Earliest fall 2008 The program will allow the
students to study at 2 or 3 campuses. Courses
are devided into basic and advanced blocks at
each university. In ideal case the basic studies
are carried out in 2 different places (1 year)
and advanced level including thesis work at
third place (1 year).
4Innovative Sustainable Energy Engineering TKK,
KTH, DTU, NTNU, Chalmers, HI
The program will run at some extent with internet
based audiovisual educational material allowing
students at other campuses to follow
lectures. MSc thesis is carried out under
supervision of a teacher from the institute where
the advanced cources have been taken. Tutoring
and mentoring important at all times. Students
who wish to perform the thesis project in
industry should work with selected partner
industries.
5Innovative Sustainable Energy Engineering TKK,
KTH, DTU, NTNU, Chalmers, HI
This program is important because Energy and
environmental aspects are at very high level of
public, scientific, academic, industrial, and
political agenda. New energy and environmental
tecnologies are needed for sustainable future and
for security. We need each others
experties Joining forces between top Technical
Universities in Nordic countries complements each
others experties and exsisting course programmes.
6Renewable energy technologies -reducing CO2
emissions by new technologies
Solar
Wind
Biomass
Hydro
Geothermal
7Reducing CO2 emissions and wastes by new
technologies
Industrial systems and urban areas -Reducing of
the amount of industrial waste -Converting waste
to energy or useful products -Capture and
storage of CO2 -Increase energy efficiency and
better utilization of waste heat -Saving energy
by optimizing infrastructure
8Innovative Sustainable Energy Engineering TKK,
KTH, DTU, NTNU, Chalmers, HI
The six universities joining forces have all
well-established international world-leading
research in their respective areas selected for
the application. For example Wind Energy in
DTU Geothermal and hydrogen economy
at HI Combustion of
biomass, biorefinery at TKK
CO2 capture and storage TKK, NTNU
Energy systems, savings, and
efficiency KTH Industrial
energy systems, Chalmers

Goal The goal is to create one educational market
at highest international level in the field. We
need to be ambitious. How to get started? Our
Nordic and international network is used. Our
specialized courses are utilized as a starting
engine for this programme. The knowledge and
experiences from our running joint programmes
like Processindustri Miljöteknik (TKK and
Chalmers) is usefull when planning a new larger
programme.
10Laboratory of Energy Engineering and
Environmental Protection
Example two existing energy education modules at
TKK. KTH, DTU, NTNU, Chalmers, HI have modules
with their own specialties.
- Renewable Forms of Energy and Environmental
Technology (20 ECTS) - New energy production technologies
- Special work on energy technology
- Wind power technology
- Solar energy technology
- Bio Energy and Environmental Technology (20 ECTS)
- Electricity production from biomass I, II a, II b
- Driftsmätningar på kraftverk
- Kraftsproduction ur avfall
- Specialarbete I miljövänliga energiprocesser

KTH, DTU, NTNU, Chalmers, HI
- Some questions.
- How to fund mobility of the students?
- We have to find affordable accommodation.
- We need to agree on the diploma.
- One diploma from the University where the thesis
was carried out - Double degree Diploma from the University where
the thesis was carried out second diploma
signed by the other Universities. - Student acceptance procedure has to be agreeable
with - the professors and administrators.
12A view from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
(LBNL), California.
Nordic countries have to show high ambition and
create world class programmes.
