• Controls thoughts, reactions, heartbeat, and
  other processes.
• All systems in the body receive chemicals and
  electrical signals from the nervous system.

Neuron

• Nerve cell
• Consists of 3 parts
• 1. axon- look like long tails
• Carries signal away from the cell body
• 2. cell body- also called soma
• 3. dendrites- look like skinny arms
• Pick up signal from axon and carries to cell body

Electrochemical Signals

• Signal made up of both electrical and chemical
  charges
• Neuron fires an electrical charge when exposed to
  a stimulus
• Charge travels down axon
• Sac at end of axon releases a chemical into the
  synapse connection between axon and dendrite of
  next neuron

• More common than neurons
• Job is to nourish and support neurons
