• SIAP is an association composed of
  processors/exporters, traders and farmers groups.
  It plays a big role in marketing farmers
  produce, traders and exporters/processors.

• Major problems in marketing of the industry are
  non-trade barriers imposed by CODEX on food and
  food additives.
• SIAP plays a big role in solving these problems
  by cooperating with international seaweed
  associations like MARINALG and the International
  Seaweed Association. SIAP is also active in
  strengthening the ASEAN CAREGEENAN INDUSTRY CLUB.

• SIAP coordinates and has good working relations
  with government agencies involved in promoting
  seaweed both in production and marketing.
• For the Asian countries, there is a need to
  review the importation of food, cosmetics,
  pharmaceuticals and other related companies of
  caregeenan from Europe and USA for their
  products.

• There is a need for these industries to
  communicate with their respective governments on
  their need for carageenan. The Philippines,
  being the leader for Asia on carageenan/seaweed
  is happy to coordinate with them through
  government and work on their needs for carageenan
• As to quality standards, the SIAP conducts
  regular monitoring on quality needs of the
  markets and disseminate it to all makers for
  strict compliance.
