• The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act
  regulates food additives, drugs and medical
  devices (for both human and animal use), and to
  cosmetics. It requires truth in advertising and
  prohibits certain products.
• It also requires that an environmental impact
  statement be prepared such that it meets the
  National Environmental Policy Act of 1969.

• Substances it regulates includes food dyes like
  cochineal and indigo, hair dyes like coal-tar
  derivatives, drugs such as aspirin, and medical
  devices like artificial heart valves.
• The US Food and Drug Administration is

  piece of legislation.
