• HUMAINE is an FP6 NoE
• In the multimodal interfaces initiative.
• The Technical Annex says
• The general aim of the network is to equip
  European teams to take a leading role in the
  development of systems that can register, model
  and/or influence human emotional and
  emotion-related states and processes.
• We consider emotion in an inclusive sense rather
  than in the narrow sense of episodes where a
  strong rush of feeling briefly dominates a
  persons awareness.

• To create a community of experts in signal
  processing issues related to emotion
• To deliver an exemplar
• a piece of work in each of the areas which
  exemplifies how a key problem in the area can be
  solved in a principled way and which also
  demonstrates how work focused on that area can
  integrate with work focused on the other areas

• An exemplar may have many parts
• Eg a set of techniques for solving basic signal
  processing for emotion detection
• But the parts must cohere

• An exemplar must relate to other WPs at a
  conceptual level
• e.g. in the way emotion is described
• the kind of data to be handled
• The WP will also be involved in service
  activities to exemplars based in other WPs

WP4 in HUMAINEHow are we getting there?

• During the first 12 months of the project, the
  members (of each WP) will co-operate to define
  tasks that are of fundamental significance for
  the area.
• That period will inform selection of one task in
  each area
• on which members associated with it will work
  together to produce an exemplar.
