overview - Data exchange between the Norwegian research
reporting systems and DSpace - QA

4The Norwegian research reporting system
- 1993 Norwegian research institutions start to
report their research using ForskDok - 2003 The Ministry of Education and Research
proposes a national system for research reporting - 2005 The registration systems Frida and
ForskDok are both in use - The Norwegian Social Science Data Services (NSD)
gather the data and create reports that are
forwarded to the Ministry - Data are used in the decision making process on
research funding allocation for the coming year. - Searchable databases that give an overview of all
Norwegian research.

5Bergen Open Research Archive (BORA)
- Institutional archive for the University of
Bergen - Service provider for
- Norwegian School of Economics and Business
Administration (NHH) - Bergen University College
- Four Norwegian Universities are working together
- establishing a common OAI harvesting service,
Norwegian Open Research Archives (NORA) - making Research Documentation System communicate
with the Institutional Repositories

6Data exchange between research reporting systems
and DSpace
- IR project groups from the same Universities are
collaborating with the FRIDA development group - Goal Data exchange between research reporting
systems and IRs - Two possible solutions
- To harvest data from parts of FRIDA using OAI-PMH
and importing the data to the local IRs - Submitting the data via a separate submission
interface and transferring the data to the
various systems
DSpace User Group meeting, Cambridge July 2005
7OAI-PMH harvesting from Frida
Academic
8Local submission interface
9Advantages
- The researcher only has to submit the metadata of
their research publications once - The submission can be (almost) completed by the
researcher - Marketing advantages
- We get a complete overview of research published
by members of the University, and can plan for
the inclusion of documents into BORA
