Heat Transfer

• The movement of energy from a warmer object to a
  cooler object
• Three types
• Convection
• Conduction
• Radiation

Radiation

• Energy transfer through empty space
• Example Sunlight, heat from an open fire
  (flame)
• No direct contact between a heat source and an
  object

Conduction

• Heat transfer by direct contact of particles of
  matter
• Heated, vibrate fasterbump into other particles
  and heat them
• Example spoon in boiling water, and even
  touching the spoon

Convection

• Heat transferred by the movement of heated fluid
• Caused by differences in temperature and density
  within a fluid
• Density a measure of how much mass there is in
  a volume of a substance

Convection Current

• The flow that transfers heat within a fluid.
• Constant flow
• The heating and cooling of the fluid, changes in
  the fluids density, and the force of gravity
  combine to set convection currents in motion.
