Weapons used
  • Spears.
  • A long sword about 0.8 to 1 meter in blade
    length.
  • Bows Arrows.
  • Maces and hammers
  • Battle axes

Helmets
  • Macedonian-helmet used during the 4th and 5th
    century.
  • Chalcinian-bronze helmet was also used during the
    4th and 5th century

Body armor
  • There were 4 different types of body armor used
    during this time period.
  • Cuirass
  • Chain mail
  • Plate armor
  • Leg plates

Cuirass
  • Cuirass-Was armor made of leather, and a main
    layer of metal. This was under everything else.
    This was worn by the Greek heavy infantry.

Chain Mail
  • Mail- Was made up of woven rings attached on
    iron and steel. This piece of armory lies over
    the Cuirass.

Plate armor
  • Plate armor- This piece of armour usually covers
    your torso and lower limbs.

Leg plates
  • This type of armour was commonly used around the
    world in the 5th century. This type of armor
    protected everything below your waiste.

Battalions
  • Medieval armies were divided into three groups
    called battalions.
  • Vanguards
  • Centre
  • Rearguard

Vanguards
  • Made up of archers and other long range weaponry
    like slings and stones and rarely catapults.The
    Vanguards attacked first trying to wipe out most
    of the opposing army.

Centre
  • The centre were made up of armored cavalry
    (Knights). The Centre came in after the Vanguards
    and were used for close combat.

Rearguard
  • These were made up of more agile cavalry. This
    group came to protect the rear of a main force.

Bases and transportation
  • People during this time had castles to protect
    them from incoming enemies.
  • Then for combat they mostly used horses.

Castles
  • Castles were used for two main reasons. For
    shelter on incoming enemys and as a house for
    knights and their people to live in.

Horses
  • Horses were the main source for king aurthers
    army in combat. A lot of Kings used this during
    the 5th century
