Abstract
  • Basic home security has not changed.
  • Lock and key system is archaic.
  • New technologies can help security move beyond
the antiquated system of lock and key.
  • Memorization adds security.
  • Passwords can be forgotten, shared, observed
  • Most effective security is Biometrics.
  • Fast and user-friendly authentication
  • High level of accuracy

5
Design Objectives
  • Improve home security and accessibility.
  • Provide a reliable and more secure substitute for
    key.
  • Digital Door Assistant
  • Alternative to archaic key-entry door systems
  • Utilize accurate fingerprint identification
  • Perform as an embedded system

Project Components
  • Fingerprint Scanner
  • Code
  • Electronics
  • Doorbell
  • Lock
  • Keypad

Final assembly
8
Fingerprint Scanner
  • Bioscrypt only sent us a 11 verify unit
  • The algorithm goes through each template and
    verifies the finger versus it.
  • This causes the delay while verifying.
  • Even with the verify unit, this prototype is
usable for most households of 6 or less.
  • Baud rate
  • Default rate 57600
  • MCU doesnt support 57600
  • Firmware
  • An update from Bioscrypt was needed

9
Code
Assembly programming
  • C
  • Easier to program with
  • More robust
  • Not Compatible with hardware
  • Assembly
  • Lower level language
  • More coding
  • Compatible with hardware

10
Problems encountered with code
  • Had no display on HC11
  • PC simulators help debug algorithms
  • Not able to view MV1200 response packet
  • Problems with C Compiler
  • Troubleshooting took up too much time
  • Troubles with C compiler interfacing with
    hardware
  • Delays in assembly

11
Electronics
12
Prototype Performance and Evaluation
  • Fully functional prototype
  • Delays
  • More users more delays
  • Limitations
  • Weather
  • Power supply

13
Future Developments
  • Utilize the Identify MV1200 unit
  • Add a LCD display to show status and
    administration
  • Add a 0-9 keypad to allow for numbering of users
  • Record data log of door access
  • Weatherproofing
  • Aesthetics

14
Project Budget
15
Project Schedule
16
Conclusion
  • Project works and is original
  • Plan on developing it further
  • Talks about a patent
