FACTS ABOUT ECOSYSTEMS

• Plants depend on the animals to breath out
  carbon dioxide and the animals depend on the
  plants for protection.
• Plants and animals are interdependent.
• The dead animals fertilize the earth.
• Pollution is horrible to the environment because
  it can kill animals and plants.

In our ecocolumns we had these items in the
Aquaria and terraria

• TERRARIA
• 2 Crickets
• 2 isopods
• 1 cup gravel
• 30 mustard seeds
• 30 grass seeds
• 30 alfalfa seeds
• 2 cups soil

• AQUARIA
• 2 mosquito fish
• 2 snails
• 1 cup gravel
• 4 cups water
• 2 elodea
• 20 duckweed
• 3 droppers algae

Ecocolumns

• Terrarium
• We made ecocolumns out of 2 liter bottles. For
  the terraria we used the top part of a bottle. We
  first placed the screened part inside of a cup.
  Then we added 1 cup of gravel into the bottle.
  After that we added 2 cups of soil. We carefully
  divided the soils top into 4ths. In 3 of the
  sections we planted alfalfa, grass and mustard
  seed. We waited a week and then added our
  animals.
• Aquarium
• We started with the bottom of the bottle and
  added 1 cup of gravel, 4 cups of water, 2 pieces
  of elodea, 20 pieces of duckweed and 4
  dropperfuls algae. We waited 1 day then added the
  animals.

How Does Acid Rain Affect the Environment?

• Acid rain runs into the streams and pollutes the
  water. Therefore killing plants and animals.
• It also damages farmers crops and old buildings.

WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP

• We can stop burning fossil fuels. Then we can
  start using solar powered energy.

WHAT HAPPENED !!

• In the ecocolumns we polluted it with acid
  rain. Unfortunately the pollutant reached only
  the plants but, it affected the alfalfa and
  mustard seed.It turned the plants white and made
  the grass weep. The aquarium was fine although we
  think it might have affected it a little bit by
  shredding the leaves on our elodea. We think it
  is bad to pollute the earth with acid rain.

• We had a great time working on this ecosystem
  unit.
• It was a lot of fun with Miss Wandler as our
  teacher.
