• Chemical reaction between the cement and water
• TriCalcium Aluminate (C3A) reaction is immediate
  and liberates large amount of heat (heat of
  hydration)
• Gypsum is used to slow down the rate of
  Aluminates hydration
• TriCalcium Silicate (C3S) hydrates more rapidly
  than DiCalcium Silicate (C2S), contributing to
  the final set time and early strength gain.
