Project Purpose

• Design an energy supply for a flash tube
• Improve circuit density from the current design

Why Higher Frequency?
Advantages
Disadvantages

• Greater potential for radio frequency emission
  problems
• Designing parts to operate at the higher
  frequency i.e. transformer losses

• Ability to use smaller reactive components
• Smaller parts gives smaller, and lighter package

Strobe Tube

• Normally Open Circuit
• Trigger Excites the Gas Inside the Tube- a 405V
  sample from the output cap is stepped up to HV
  and excites the tube
• Creates a Short to Ground- draws high current
  pulses
